Castor Oil 1L

Castor Oil is one of the oldest and most versatile beauty oils in the world. It is pressed from the seeds of the castor plant, a striking shrub with star-shaped leaves and spiky red seed pods that grows wild across Africa. Castor seeds have been found in Egyptian tombs more than 4,000 years old. Cleopatra is said to have used the oil to brighten the whites of her eyes, and it has been a household staple for skin and hair care in India, Africa and the Caribbean for generations. What makes castor oil unique is ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid that makes up around 90% of the oil and is found in almost no other plant. It gives the oil its famously thick, glossy texture and makes it an excellent moisture-sealer. It helps lock hydration into the skin and smooths and adds shine to the hair. Today it's a favourite in natural beauty routines: as a deep conditioning treatment for hair and scalp, for dry skin, cuticles and lips, for nourishing brows and lashes, and as a base for your own homemade blends.

Benefits

  • Pure, single-ingredient Castor Oil
  • Rich in ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid unique to castor oil
  • Seals in moisture and helps protect dry skin
  • Deeply conditions hair, leaving it feeling smoother, softer and shinier
  • Nourishes a dry scalp as a pre-wash treatment
  • Traditionally used to condition brows and lashes, helping them look fuller and glossier
  • Softens dry cuticles, heels, elbows and lips
  • Popular in the oil-cleansing method for face
  • An excellent base oil for homemade balms, salves and hair blends
  • Available in 1L
  • Ingredients
  • Castor (Ricinus communis)

Usage

Skin: smooth a few drops onto dry areas such as elbows, knees, heels, cuticles or lips. Because it's very thick, many people mix it with a lighter oil, such as almond, jojoba or coconut.

Hair and scalp: massage a small amount into the scalp and through the lengths of the hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes to a few hours, then shampoo well. You may need to shampoo twice. Use once or twice a week.

Brows and lashes: apply a tiny amount with a clean spoolie or cotton bud at night, keeping it out of the eyes. Remove any excess.

Face cleansing: blend a small amount of castor oil with a lighter oil, massage it into dry skin, then remove with a warm, damp cloth.

DIY blends: use as a base oil in your own balms, salves and hair oils.

A little goes a long way.
